MPAA tweaks numbers in download study

Filed under: internet, movies - alexei @ 4:55 am

The Motion Picture Association of America has admited that the study they commissioned in 2005, which claimed that college students are responsible for 44% of illegal film downloading, was wrong. This study was used to pressure schools to enforce stronger limits on file-sharing, as well as to back legislation now before the House of Representatives that would require them do so. The MPAA blames "human error" for the false statistic and now only blames college students for 15% of illegal downloads.

Spiderpig Pink Floyd tribute

Filed under: movies - alexei @ 10:38 pm

To promote the DVD release of The Simpsons Movie in England, a giant inflatable Spiderpig was flown over London’s Battersea Power Station, parodying the cover of the 1977 Pink Floyd’s album Animals. Thirty years ago, the giant pig balloon broke loose and rose 40,000 feet up into the Heathrow-London Airport’s flight paths. This time, an SAS sniper was hired to take down the flying pig should it try to escape.

David Lynch on meditation

Filed under: meditation, movies - alexei @ 1:56 am

Movie director legend David Lynch has been doing Transcendental Meditation for over 32 years. In a recent interview he discribes how the practice has changed his life:

Two weeks later my wife comes and says: What’s going on? I was quiet for a moment. Finally I asked: What do you mean? She said: This anger where did it go? Because I was taking it all out on her. It had just lifted. And that’s a very real thing. That is a very real thing. The anger was there and it just lifted away. The same way with depression and sorrow. And this fear, fear, fear… [fear of what?] The fear of the unknown that’s running through the world and manifests in all different ways. How is it all gonne fall? And you’re right in the middle of it and you don’t know and you blame other people for something that is really just you. The anxieties. They start lifting away. You become calm. It’s like going to the treasury every day. You go and just fill up those pockets, the energy for the day. It’s like money in the bank.

Veni, Vidi, V for Vandetta

Filed under: movies - Administrator @ 3:14 am

Remember remember the fifth of November,
gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason, why gunpowder treason,
should ever be forgot…

V’s Introduction:

Voila! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-a-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.
